The ODM leader Raila Odinga has applauded the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) team for completion of its work despite heavy political sand storm. The 14 member governed by Garissa Senator Yusuf Haji presents its recommendations and report to His Excellency The President of the Republic of Kenya UhuruKenyatta on Tuesday, November 26.
In his statement shortly after standing witness in handing over of the document at the State House, Raila calls on Kenyans to keenly go through its recommendations for an informed decision.
Raila is quoted advising his fellow Kenyans;
“I commend the Building Bridges Initiative Taskforce team for the diligent work they have undertaken for the past year having visited all 47 counties. I urge you all to read and familiarize yourselves with the report once it’s publicly available starting tomorrow”.
The official unveiling of the BBI report is slated for November 27, at the Bomas of Kenya after which it will be made available to the members of the public. It is not yet clear whether it will be subject to referendum or not but from the outlook, it proposes radical changes to the Constitution to set in a new governance structure as that may better the need and requirements of Kenyans as a whole.
It categorically provides room to create a new post for a ceremonial Prime Minister, a Cabinet but moreover retains a powerful president and furthermore all the elective seats. The stage is now set for a major political show down between pro-BBI MPs and those allied to Deputy President William Ruto who have previously stated their conditional support.
