Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago on Saturday joined the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) in celebrating the life of Lieutenant General (Rtd) John Malan Sawe in Chirchir; Elgeiyo Marakwet County.
Mandago eulogized the fallen hero saying he has done a lot to the nation and what stands out, General Sawe and KDF helped the 2nd President Daniel Arap Moi to stabilize the nation in 1982 attempt coup.
“I always say if we didn’t have patriotic soldiers like Sawe in this country during that time, who knows whether we could be having the country Kenya today,” said Mandago
“He was a great leader, he served the community wholeheartedly,” he added.
Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Alex Tolgos Tolgos on his part said General Sawe was generous, nurtured and supported a lot of youths not only in Elgeyo Marakwet but entire nation.
Deputy Governor Daniel Chemno who was also present said despite challenges, God opens the way.
“Many years ago, General Sawe planted tea and I am telling you to diversify. Diversification is the way to go,” he noted.
On his part, Cabinet Secretary for Finance Henry Rotich described the late General’s character as a man of Order, Discipline and integrity.
“As we celebrate the fallen hero, lets emulate his three characters to tackle the challenges we go through going forward,” said Rotich.
